On Monday, Infiniti released images of a compact four-door crossover hatchback called the Etherea, which the Japanese luxury brand intends to display at the Geneva auto show next month.
The Etherea follows Renault’s announcement of its Captur concept, another Geneva-bound crossover that defies facile categorization. But where the Captur does not reflect familial traits of Renault’s current or conceptual products, the Etherea’s lineage is traceable to Infiniti’s Essence concept, which was first shown at Geneva in 2009. On both cars’ noses, a groove traces the outline of the grille, with a racy cutaway directly below the grille.
Current European market competitors would include the BMW 1 Series (offered in Europe as a four-door hatchback), the Audi A3 and Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
