Honda recently informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it would recall about 50,000 of its 2012 Civics because the vehicles might suddenly lose power.
In a report filed early Wednesday on the safety agency’s Web site, the automaker said the driver’s side driveshaft could become loose while the vehicle was in motion. This could cause a loss of propulsion or, for a model fitted with an automatic transmission, cause a roll-away even when the gear selector was in Park.

For car enthusiasts who subscribe to the grass-is-always-greener theory, the 2012 Honda Civic Mugen Type R offers yet another point of corroboration.
This high-performance Civic, tuned by Honda’s longtime partner to squeeze a robust 256 horsepower from its 2.2-liter engine, is limited to European customers. Pricing, Mugen said, has yet to be determined, but a number might be announced at the car’s debut at the Frankfurt auto show next week.

On Thursday, General Motors announced that the base Cruze will start at $16,995 when it goes on sale in September.
That puts the Cruze a few hundred dollars higher than its Japanese competitors in the compact car class: the Honda Civic, which starts at $16,405, Toyota Corolla ($16,200) and Mazda 3 ($16,095). All prices include destination charges.
