BMW Gran Coupé Is a Go

BMW’s development chief, Klaus Drager, has confirmed that the Gran Coupé concept, first shown at Auto China in Beijing in April, will go into production for release in 2012.

According to AutoWeek, the Gran Coupé, a tweener sedan that chases coupelike styling elements of the Mercedes-Benz CLS and the new Audi A7, will slot in a range close to the 6 Series, which is priced in Germany at about $93,000. And a hybrid version is being considered. “We are in position to bring out an additional hybrid version, since we are using the same powertrain architecture as the 5, 6 or 7 series,” he said.
